Counselling

Our team offer face-to-face individual sessions and telephone sessions to both drinkers and also people affected by drink, such as partners or friends. They work to minimise the harm caused by excessive drinking, whether the drinker wishes to reduce consumption or become abstinent.

The counselling approach and the duration of the intervention varies according to the needs of each client.

The counselling team are dedicated to furthering their expertise through continual professional development.

Auricular Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the major components of Chinese medicine, and has been successfully used in treating individuals for 2000 years. The practice is based upon the belief that any symptom or illness, either psychological or physical, is associated with an imbalance of the personal vital energy, known as “Chi”. The principle that chi must be balanced in order to restore well-being, means that any underlying cause is being dealt with.

During the last century, it was discovered that by using a combination of five points in the ear, various benefits could be achieved in the treatment of addiction. Our clients report a reduced craving for alcohol, improved sleep and a general feeling of well-being.

Supervised Home Detoxification Programme

Over the past 30 years there has been a major shift to developing community based services. Research has shown that the majority of people can be successfully treated in their own homes and form many this is the preferred option. A small number of people need intensive support and may require in-patient care.

A full assessment is carried out to establish the client's suitability for home detox. Providing the criteria is met and the individual's GP is willing to prescribe the necessary medication, treatment can commence. The programme usually lasts between 7-10 days, with regular visits from a specialist nurse.

Withdrawal from alcohol, even small amounts, may induce some unpleasant symptoms and therefore is best managed by professionals.

Group Work

Working in partnership with Worcester College of Technology, we provide courses for improving self-esteem and assertiveness skills for our clients. These courses take place in our Worcester office and last for 8-10 weeks.

Your individual worker will give you further information.
